Our breeding goal is to protect the Maine Coon breed from overbreeding
because they are very good therapy animals!
We want healthy, stable, long-lived and instinctively sound Maine Coons again. The kittens in our matings therefore have a much larger gene pool than average.
The same principles of genetics apply to every living being that reproduces sexually. When you look at the genetics within a group, it's called population genetics. The Australian Institute of Canine Biology has been studying breeding and its impact on individuals within bred groups for over 20 years. Dogs because there is the most data on dog breeds. Breeds of horses, sheep and other bred mammals were also examined and the impact of breeding on different health risks was evaluated. The connections that the institute has developed are generally valid and applicable to all populations in which sexual reproduction takes place. So do cats.
The “Populationsgenetik” button is a direct link to the institute and its most important findings. Its the original english version.
The Altmahd Maine Coon Cattery is officially registered, confirmed by the official veterinarian and belongs to a club. We only breed animals with registered pedigree.
